Top 6 Golf Courses in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire is a premier destination in England for a number of reasons. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, from beautiful landscapes of rolling scenery and quintessentially British villages and towns, to bustling cities full of international and independent retailers, not to mention some of the finest coastlines you’re likely to find anywhere in the world.

Another key reason people visit North Yorkshire, however, is for a game of golf and the range of courses in the area. So, we’ve decided to put together this quick guide on the top golf clubs and courses in North Yorkshire, where we’ll also tell you where best to stay to enjoy a golfing weekend or stay.

And what better place to start, than Whitby.

Whitby Golf Club

Whitby is one of the most well-known and beautiful seaside towns in England. It sees visitors from around the world for its famous fish and chips and atmosphere, not to mention the gothic architecture and cultural history within the area.

Whitby Golf Club is located on the west side of the town, on the way to Sandsend. It lies on the edge of the famous Whitby cliffs, with amazing views along the coastline as well as inland onto the North Yorkshire Moors.

This particular course is ideal as a holiday destination, as it’s not too long or particularly strenuous. This means you don’t have to be a seasoned pro to tackle the course, although it’s not one for complete beginners.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in between playing rounds on the green, we provide 5* holiday homes in the heart of Whitby, all of which can be found at our website

Pannal Golf Club

Next up is a trip to Harrogate and Pannal Golf Club, which was founded in 1906 and has been entertaining golfing enthusiasts ever since. The club is steeped in history and features a bar, driving range, pro shop, trolley and club hire, as well as a restaurant on the grounds which serves a brilliant lunch.

This is one of the more difficult courses on the list, particularly on the first six holes, but overall, it is fantastically well-kept with stunning views to keep you occupied on the green. It’s known for its friendly staff and quick greens, and has received excellent reviews over the years.

Harrogate is a beautiful area to stay in, too, and we provide apartments and accommodation to suit families, couples, or the solo traveller. Take a look at our Harrogate apartments and accommodation here.

Fulford Golf Club

Fulford Golf Club is nestled in York and is one of England’s most highly-decorated inland courses, with years of history under its belt and a reputation as a treat to visit. It has hosted 23 successive European Tour Events in the 1970s through to the 1990s, and is ideally situated just a mile away from the centre of York.

This is an incredibly well-known golf club and one of the best in the country, having staged some of golf’s biggest events over the years.

York is also a beautiful place to visit, and you can stay in the best of the best, York-based serviced accommodation with Stay North Yorkshire.

Skipton Golf Club

Skipton Golf Club is another North Yorkshire establishment which boasts incredible views from every part of the course. It’s a bit of an all-rounder, and the variation of the course means it can provide a decent challenge to golfers of any standard.

Each hole has its own distinct personality, and it also boasts a modern clubhouse with incredibly friendly and accommodating staff. It’s a bit of a hidden gem in the grand scheme of things, but the users’ reviews speak for themselves with Skipton Golf Club, and it’s one of the finest courses in the area.

Stay North Yorkshire provide two examples of 5* accommodation in Skipton, The Old Post Office which sleeps 8, and 4 Skyreholme Mill Cottages, which sleeps 4.

Scarborough North Cliff Golf Course

Another seaside-based course, Scarborough North Cliff was established in 1909 and features an 18 hole course which was built in 1928 by James Braid.

It houses a relatively gentle terrain, and features stunning, panoramic views of the coast. The staff are courteous and welcoming, and the holes feature a range of different characteristics that make them unique.

Scarborough South Cliff Golf Course

As with any local attraction, there’s a bit of competition between the two prominent golf courses in Scarborough, with both coming out on top, depending on who you ask.

Scarborough South Cliff features a fantastic clubhouse and also has brilliant staff, and the views are absolutely stunning, as is to be expected given the location. This one is more of a weather-dependent course, however if you visit at the right time of year, you’re destined to have a great time.

We feature lots of 5* holiday lets in Scarborough, with something to suit everyone whether it’s a trip for a couple or an entire family. Take a look at our Scarborough locations today and find the perfect stay for your golfing getaway.
